Overview

Amidst the global pandemic, many gyms and fitness studios have closed their doors. This results in many fitness instructors out of work & fitness enthusiasts compromising their workout experience into their homes. Hence, we decided to dive into the space of creating an MVP that benefits both fitness instructors & fitness enthusiasts.

Approach & Methods

To get a better understanding of the users that will be piloting the platform, proto-personas were created prior to the workshop. As such, 3 types of users were identified based on their needs, values, abilities: Viewers, Instructors, Admins.

Viewers
Everyday users who join live workout sessions and follow their preferred instructors. They primarily engage by watching, learning, and supporting instructors through follows and tip donations.

Instructors
Fitness creators who host live-streamed workout sessions and upload video-on-demand (VOD) content from previous workouts. They drive the platform’s content and community engagement.

Admins
Platform operators responsible for coordinating live sessions and managing both front-stage (user-facing) and back-stage (system-level) aspects of the service to ensure smooth delivery.

Story-mapping session with stakeholders

Using the proto-personas created, we developed a set of user story overviews to break down the key activities each user type would perform on the platform. These stories helped us align on expectations and define the scope for different user roles.

We then facilitated several story-mapping sessions with stakeholders. Together, we mapped the end-to-end journeys for the highest-priority user stories, allowing stakeholders to share their perspectives and clarify motivations, requirements, and operational details. This collaborative process helped us pinpoint the essential features for the MVP.

Impact & results

We designed and developed a fully working MVP which supports:

  • Videos on-demand watch & share
  • Live classes streaming by fitness instructors
  • REP$ donations (Similar to Twitch Bits) to support user-generated contents
  • Live chatting feature to improve the interactions & engagement between both fitness enthusiasts & instructors
